Stingray Athletics

Athletics are offered to SWES Grade 6 students. Depending on the number of grade 6 students,  grade 5 students may also be offered to participate in the program. Practices are generally held once a week after school. Details will be provided to parents. See below for athletics offered at SWES. 
 RUNNING CLUB
The season runs from early September - mid October. There is a Chinooks's Edge School Division run in October (the date and location will be announced to the runners). 
VOLLEYBALL
The season runs from early October to mid November. There is a half day tournament in November (the date and location will be announced to the players).
BADMINTON
The season runs from mid January  beginning of March. There is a half day tournament  (the date and location will be announced to the players). 
BASKETBALL
The season runs from early March to mid April. There is a half day tournament in April (the date and location will be announced to the players). 
TRACK AND FIELD/ SPORTS DAY (K-3 Sports Day & 4-6 Track and Field)
This is an afternoon for students to test their skills by participating in various sport activities.

Track and Field is an individual sport where we encourage students to challenge themselves at every event! We will not be recording measurements or giving out ribbons.

STEFFIE MARATHON

In conjunction with Sports Day is the Steffie Marathon.

This event is organized by School Council for students in kindergarten through grade 6, as well as their families and friends. We hope to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits while focusing on achieving a goal. 

Upon registration, each partcipant will receive a training log to track their progress in ¼ km 
increments. These measurements can be approximated from known distances around town, or tracked with a training app. Participants can walk, run, or roll their way to a total of 41 kilometers. The final stretch of the marathon will be shared by the whole school. Additional participants are welcome to join students that morning to enjoy the final kilometer. Route details will be provided closer to the event.
